1. National Geochemical Survey of Australia update

The National Geochemical Survey of Australia (NGSA) aims to produce the first geochemical atlas of Australia based on the multi-element analysis of transported regolith samples collected at the outlet of around 1,400 large catchments covering about 90% of the continent. The project started in January 2007 and recent progress includes:

• Finalisation of National Geoscience Agreements (NGAs) with all State and Northern Territory geoscience agencies to formalise collaborative arrangements;
• Training of sampling teams from most State and Northern Territory geoscience agencies completed, and each provided with:
• a field methodology presentation and field manual;
• a week's in-field training and identical sampling tools;
• consumables; and
• a common digital data entry template to facilitate future data uploading into databases.
• 127 catchments have been sampled to date (9% completion) and samples are being sent to Geoscience Australia for sample preparation.
