Mount Isa–Georgetown project

Project description

This project will acquire, process and interpret pre-competitive geoscience information related to energy resources in the Mount Isa-Georgetown-Charters Towers region, northern Queensland to identify prospectivity and promote new data and results to industry.

Project outcome

Increased investment in exploration for onshore energy-related resources, particularly geothermal, uranium and thorium, within northern Queensland to improve discovery rates.

Project outputs 2007-08

  • Compilation and analysis of available geological and geophysical information delivered as GIS layers and spreadsheets, and/or online databases.
  • Project Scope and Project Plan documents outlining the energy-related scientific questions to be addressed by the project, in consultation with stakeholders, and the tools to be employed.
  • Seismic data from the Mount Isa seismic survey interpreted and released into the public domain.
  • Acquisition of seismic data completed along several transects in the Cloncurry-Georgetown-Charters Towers region.
  • Acquisition of other data (e.g. geochronology and geochemistry) commenced to facilitate interpretations of the new geophysical data.
