Northern Territory project

Project description

This project will collect geophysical and geological datasets related to energy resources (uranium, thorium, geothermal energy and hydrocarbons) within the Northern Territory as part of the Onshore Energy Security Program, in collaboration with the Northern Territory Geological Survey.

Project objectives

The project aims to develop a better understanding of the energy resource potential of frontier regions and to reduce exploration risk in more mature regions.

Project outputs 2007/2008

  • Compilation and analysis of available geological and geophysical information delivered as GIS layers and spreadsheets and/or online databases;
  • project scope and planning documents outlining the energy-related scientific questions to be addressed by the project and the tools to be employed; and
  • start data acquisition (e.g geochronology and other isotopic data) to assist in the interpretation of geophysical data.
