Geoscience Australia has a new set of Science Principles, developed to guide the agency's research for the benefit of all Australians.

The Science Principles embrace collaborative, quality and transparent science as well as communicated science. They emphasise the importance of conducting research that is relevant to government and of sustaining a strong science capability.

Geoscience Australia's Chief Scientist, Dr Clinton Foster said the agency's geoscientific research and information help to inform decision making by governments, industry and the wider community on a range of economic, social and environmental issues relevant to managing Australia's natural resources.

"Underpinning this important work with strong principles is vital for Geoscience Australia's long-term planning and day-to-day operations, for ongoing contribution to Australia's future well-being," Dr Foster said.

"Application of these principles will ensure that Geoscience Australia's geological and spatial information continues to be valued for evidence based decision making," Dr Foster said.

"It is also important that the results of the agency's science are easily accessible and readily understood by a range of audiences via the website and other delivery mechanisms," Dr Foster said.
