1. Geo-Region of the Month - Georgetown Inlier, north Queensland

Each month Geoscience Australia will highlight a range of significant products relating to key Australian mineral provinces which have been released over the past 10 years and may be of interest to current explorers. This month's Geo-Region is the Georgetown Inlier and the wider north Queensland area. The highlighted products, which are available as a free download, are:

  1. Deep Crustal Seismic Surveys - L184 Isa-Georgetown Deep Crustal Seismic Survey, QLD, 2007. Stacked and migrated data and images for lines 07GA-IG1 and 07GA-IG2. This data package includes gravity data, processed seismic data (SEG-Y format), TIFF images and associated metadata for the deep crustal seismic lines collected across the Georgetown Inlier.
  2. Geochronology - New SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages from north Queensland, 2007-10. This record presents a compilation of new zircon U-Pb SHRIMP geochronological results for 17 sedimentary and igneous samples from the Etheridge Province, Georgetown Region, and four samples from the recently identified Millungera Basin, located under cover between the Mount Isa and Georgetown regions.
  3. Basement map - Basement Geology of Northern Queensland. This 'basement' geology interpretation draws extensively on published 1:100 000, 1:250 000 and smaller scale regional geological maps, and analysis of regional aeromagnetic, Bouguer gravity and bore hole data, to provide information on the interpreted geology beneath flat-lying Cenozoic and Mesozoic cover materials.
  4. Geodynamic Synthesis - Geodynamic Synthesis of the North Queensland region and Implications for Metallogeny. This report presents the results of a geodynamic synthesis of north Queensland, in order to better understand the tectonic and geodynamic setting of existing mineral deposits within north Queensland, and to provide a predictive capability for possible new styles of mineral systems and commodities.
  5. Geology of Queensland - Geology of Queensland, published by the Queensland Government, offers a modern comprehensive description and detailed analysis of Queensland's geology, including chapters on the stratigraphy and geological evolution of the Georgetown Inlier.

2. Workshop on new seismic and MT datasets from the Yilgarn Craton to the Musgrave Province, Western Australia

There will be a full day workshop on Wednesday, 19 June 2013 in Perth to present the results of new seismic reflection and magnetotelluric data collected for the 2011 Yilgarn-Officer-Musgrave seismic survey in Western Australia. This survey extends along the Great Central Road from the junction with the David Carnegie Road within the northeastern Yilgarn Craton, across the western Officer Basin to Warakurna in the Musgrave Province. The survey and workshop are a collaborative project involving Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of Western Australia.

For details on the workshop, please email narelle.neumann@ga.gov.au; or phone +61 2 6249 9429.

The workshop program is available at the GSWA web site [ PDF 1.7MB].

To register, please email deenikka.preedy@dmp.wa.gov.au; or phone +61 8 9222 3634.

3. Update on geophysical data releases

Geoscience Australia is managing the geophysical data acquisition programs in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table.
