1. New geochronology reports

GA Record 2016/27 by Lewis et al. reports new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon age results from 20 samples from the Stavely region, western Victoria. This work was conducted in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Victoria as part of the Stavely Project that included new stratigraphic drilling. The geochronology results provide improved temporal constraints on Cambrian arc-related magmatism in western Victoria, and associated mineral systems.

GA Record 2016/28 by Waltenberg et al. reports new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages from 11 samples from the Lachlan and New England orogens of New South Wales. This work was conducted under a National Collaboration Framework Geochronology Project Agreement between Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of New South Wales (GSNSW) in support of GSNSW's mineral systems studies.

GA Record 2016/03 by Bodorkos et al., reports new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon age results from two samples from rare drill-hole intersections through the Perth Basin into underlying basement rocks of the Proterozoic Pinjarra Orogen.

2. Deep Crustal Seismic Reflection Profiling: Australia 1978-2015

Over the last several decades, since the late 1970s, Geoscience Australia and its predecessors, in collaboration with the State and Territory Geological Surveys, National Research Facility for Earth Sounding (ANSIR), AuScope Earth Imaging, Cooperative Research Centres, Universities and other industry and research partners have acquired more than 20,000 line kilometres of deep seismic reflection data across Australia to better understand the crustal architecture and geodynamic evolution of key geological provinces and basins. The acquired data provide unique insights into the accretionary and subsequent intra-continental deformation record of Australia.

The Deep Crustal Seismic Reflection Profiling Australia 1978-2015 atlas presents the deep crustal seismic reflection profiles penetrating the whole crust and includes accompanying geological maps.

The first edition of the atlas (1978-2011) includes the set of reflection data over 16,000 km of deep crustal seismic reflection profiles across the whole continent. The second edition extends the coverage for the period 2012-2015 with over 4,000 km of additional reflection profiles.

Each reflection profile is presented at approximately true scale with up to 220 km of profile per page and overlap between pages. Each page of the reflection sections is accompanied by a geological strip map, showing the configuration of the line superimposed on the geology at a scale of 1:1,000,000 (http://www.ga.gov.au/metadata-gateway/metadata/record/74619/). The compilation includes a number of large scale reflection transect groups of 1,000 km or more that link across major geological provinces, and an extensive bibliography of reports and relevant publications.

3. Update on geophysical data release

Geoscience Australia manages the data acquisition program in Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and the Northern Territory on behalf of the state/territory geological surveys.
