1. Release of a new geochronology report for the Stavely region

A new geochronology report has been released in the past month:

GA Record 2015/26 by Lewis et al., reports new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon age results from five samples from the Stavely region of western Victoria.  This work was conducted at Geoscience Australia in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Victoria as part of the Stavely Project that aims to assess the potential for a range of arc-related mineral systems in western Victoria.  Further information on the Stavely Project, including other data releases, can be found at the project web page.

Geochronology data presented and discussed in this report is available for download via Geoscience Australia's Geochron Delivery system.

To obtain further information on geochronology at Geoscience Australia, please email: geochronology@ga.gov.au

2. Workshop on new seismic reflection and magneto-telluric data for the western Gawler Craton

What lies beneath the surface in the western Gawler Craton of South Australia?

From November 2013 to February 2014 Geoscience Australia, in conjunction with the Geological Survey of South Australia, the Geological Survey of Western Australia, and AuScope acquired 834km of vibroseis-source, deep-seismic reflection data along the transcontinental railway from Haig in Western Australia to Tarcoola in South Australia (line 13GA-EG1).  Magneto-telluric data imaging electrical conductivity of the crust and upper mantle were also acquired along the same profile.

On 10 December a free, half-day workshop in Adelaide will provide the latest insights from deep seismic reflection and magneto-telluric profiling of the eastern part of the 13GA-EG1 line, which covers the western Gawler Craton.  Workshop topics include seismic processing, regional geology, lithospheric architecture in the vicinity of the seismic line, potential field inversions and forward modelling, magneto-telluric  modelling, seismic interpretation and geological implications. 3. Half day Minerals Forum in Perth to showcase Geoscience Australia's UNCOVER program

A half day forum presented by the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) Western Australia and Geoscience Australia will be held at the Irish Club in Subiaco, Western Australia on Wednesday 18 November 2015 from 1.00pm. This forum will showcase the range of pre-competitive projects currently underway by Geoscience Australia and its collaborative partners under the UNCOVER initiative, focusing on the Cover, Architecture, Geodynamics and Footprints themes.

The Minerals Forum program and registration details are available here.

4. Update on geophysical data releases

Geoscience Australia is managing the geophysical data acquisition programs in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory on behalf of the state/territory geological surveys.

The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table.
