One-second Digital Elevation Model of Australia – new file format and additional access method

The 1s DEM of Australia is now available via GADDS.

The file added to GADDS is the 1 second SRTM DEM that is hydrologically conditioned and drainage enforced.  A pdf document will be supplied with the DEM data extracted via GADDS that is a user guide which provides an overview of the various products derived from the 1 second SRTM data.

The data file has a WGS84 datum and geodetic projection with grid cell values stored in the IEEE 4-byte real data type.

Please note, the full resolution grid of Australia in ers format is 72.2 GB in size and this has one limitation in delivery via GADDS due to the 2Gb limit on download volumes from GADDS.

The limitation is that data requests via GADDS for this dataset must not have N-S and E-W extents that are greater than 6° to limit the extracted dataset to be less than 2Gb in size.

Geoscience Australia manages the data acquisition program in Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and the Northern Territory.
