CO2CRC - Cooperative Centre for Greenhouse gas Technologies

Project description

This project is part of Geoscience Australia's contribution to the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC). The project is assessing selected areas of Australia (including SE Queensland; Otway, south Perth Basin and Browse basins) to identify environmentally sustainable sites for carbon dioxide injection and storage with the intention of proposing one (or more) for a pilot project to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept.

Project outcome

The outcomes of the projects will primarily be a series of digital geological models that will characterise the potential storage sites and which will be passed to the CRC reservoir engineers (mostly in other institutions) to run injection simulations.

These models will be supported by series of comprehensive reports and papers detailing the geological research that lies behind them.

Project outputs

  • A series of GIS datasets for all projects of the CO2CRC, from available and compatible spatial datasets.
  • Formal recommendations and technical appraisal for each of the sites.
  • 3D basin models of each site and full reservoir simulations.
