Seeps and Signatures

Project description

This project aims to understand and apply natural hydrocarbon seepage related features for the detection of active petroleum systems.

Project outcome

An improved understanding of the importance of natural hydrocarbon seeps for the exploration of offshore oil and gas. Promotion of offshore acreage through the application of an integrated geological and survey program by using various tools and technologies to detect hydrocarbon seeps as indicators of active petroleum systems.

Project outputs

  • Development of tools and techniques for the detection and identification of natural hydrocarbon seepage ranging from the assessment of various remote sensing applications to the geochemical analysis of sea bed samples.
  • Analysis and integration of acoustic geophysical datasets (multi-beam, side-scan and sub-bottom profiles), sedimentology and geochemistry from marine surveys in support of acreage release and for reports.
