Bibliographic information behind the Stratigraphic Units Database can be found in Geoscience Australia's GEOREF database.

To select stratigraphic references fill in part of the form below, then press 'Submit'. Normally, only one or two fields need to be entered, and entries are not case sensitive. A maximum of 100 references - plus related data - will be retrieved.

Tips on Searching the REFERENCES Database

Fill in only those parts of the selection form needed to limit the list of references. Normally, only one or two fields need to be entered to narrow the selection sufficiently, but several alternative retrievals may be necessary to ensure that all relevant references have been obtained. All selection criteria entered are joined by logical 'and'. The reference list is presented in reverse chronological order. To retrieve references by stratigraphic name, use the Stratigraphic Units Database.

How to Query Lookup Tables: The REFERENCES database has comprehensive 'lookup tables' of attributes such as keywords. To make best use of the above query form the user needs to know terms in these tables. A means is provided below whereby Web users can query these tables - e.g., users can discover for themselves all the keywords. A field is provided to enter the first letter or two of the required terms. If nothing is entered the first 200 rows from the table will be listed.

• Part of Title: Enter all or part of the title (e.g. Permian brachiopod) for a list of references containing the words entered. The words entered must be consecutive words in the title, and in the same order.

  To list keywords enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• Surname of One Author: Enter the surname of one author only (e.g. Smith). Initials can be included provided you use standard punctuation (e.g. Smith, J.B.).

  To list authors enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• Publication: Enter all or part of the name of a publication - (e.g. Australian Journal of Earth Sciences).

  To list publications enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• Keyword: Many stratigraphic references are indexed against a list of keywords. Enter all or part of a keyword (or keyword phrase) to narrow the selection of references.

  To list keywords enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• 1:250 000 Map Sheet Name or ID: Many stratigraphic references are indexed by 1:250 000 map sheet. Enter the name of the 1:250 000 map sheet in which you are interested (e.g. Cloncurry). There are 734 sheets.

  To list 1:250 000 maps enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• 1:100 000 Map Sheet Name or No.: Some stratigraphic references are indexed by 1:100 000 map sheet. Enter the name of the 1:100 000 map sheet in which you are interested (e.g. Selwyn). There are 3422 sheets.

  To list 1:100 000 maps enter a letter or two then 'submit'

• Location Name: Many stratigraphic references are indexed by location names from Geoscience Australia's Location Names Database. Enter all or part of a name of a location at or near the area in which you are interested (e.g. Bendigo).
