Available Geophysical DatasetsIntroductionPublicly available data from the airborne geophysics and gravity databases are available free online, in keeping with the Australian Government's spatial data pricing and access policy which was announced on 25 September 2001. Point located and gridded airborne geophysical and gravity data can be downloaded for free via the Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System (GADDS) or can be purchased on CD-ROM at "marginal cost of transfer". Individual semi-detailed and selected groups of regional surveys are available on CD-ROM at a cost of A$99 per CD (including GST). Most semi-detailed surveys are provided on one CD. For surveys larger than 69,000 line kilometres (at say 400 m line spacing) the data are contained on two or more CDs for each survey (up to a maximum of 7 CDs). Geoscience Australia's National Airborne Geophysical Database contains magnetic, gamma-ray, elevation and electromagnetic data from more than 900 airborne geophysical surveys conducted by or for the Australian Government. They comprise more than 19 million line kilometres of mainly total magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometric data. Line elevation data derived from GPS recordings made during airborne geophysical surveys and electromagnetic data are also available for some areas. This repository of geophysical information is a valuable national asset with importance to government and industry to assess resource potential, determine land use and environmental management policies, and aid in the planning of more detailed exploration activities. Data for individual surveys usually cover one or more 1:250,000 Sheet areas. Prior to 1990 most of the surveys had a flight line spacing of 1,500 m or more and many were conducted as part of the Bureau of Mineral Resources (Geoscience Australia's predecessor) first pass airborne geophysical reconnaissance of Australia. From 1990 surveys have usually been conducted employing flight line spacings of 400 m or less. Airborne geophysical survey data currently availableDownload the Index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys, which is a catalogue of specifications of Australian airborne geophysical surveys conducted by or for the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments. Copies of many of these datasets may be obtained from the Geoscience Australia Sales Centre. Related links |
