Geoscience Australia generates information for the safety and well-being of the community and has the capability to provide accurate and timely information for decision makers and support staff involved in all aspects of disaster risk management. A long term commitment to developing nationally consistent hazard and risk modelling capabilities, including vulnerability, economic loss estimates and data collection is crucial to building this capability.

Geoscience Australia models different aspects of hazards to better understand the risk and impact of disasters and increase community resilience to possible events. Some of the elements we currently model are hazards themselves, exposure, vulnerability as well as risk and impact.
