Our commitment
Geoscience Australia's National Mapping Information Group is committed to providing topographic, and select thematic, data and products for the benefit of the Australian community, including government, spatial industry and the general public.
Our capabilities
- Providing national scale topographic mapping data products, advice and information to a diverse range of clients.
- Maintaining and enhancing an extensive data collection of topographic information.
- Developing new spatial products in collaboration with commonwealth and state agencies, as well as other key partners.
- Representing the Australian Government in the spatial arena.
- Developing new channels for the distribution of topographic information to the community, including airline and new media solutions.
- Providing mapping expertise, data and products for the Australian Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation (DIGO).
Capabilities in action
Examples of how we have delivered these capabilities include:
- Development of specific maps (e.g. Karijini National Park, ACT Region, West MacDonnell Ranges, South East Queensland) to meet the needs of emergency managers and tourism agencies.
- Introduction of MapConnect, an award winning online map service.
- Updating and delivery of maps and data to the Department of Defence. Geoscience Australia has been successfully undertaking this role in support of Australia's security for many years.
