Digital Earth Australia Hotspots

Digital Earth Australia Hotspots is a national bushfire monitoring tool which provides information about hotspots.

Hotspots are areas of unusually high temperatures that we can detect using satellites.

Hotspots have a range of causes, from industry activity to smoke to bushfires. Not all hotspots can be seen from space, as they may be too small, not hot enough, hidden by cloud or smoke, or started when no satellite was passing overhead.

Government and Emergency Services agencies can use this information when planning their responses to bushfires.
