Geoscience Australia welcomes virtual visitors

For the first time, visitors nationwide will be able to participate in Geoscience Australia's annual Open Day event, through a live online stream of keynote speakers.In recent years, attendance at Geoscience Australia's Open Day has increased dramatically. Recognising the need to meet this demand, the agency hopes to increase public access by offering a live web stream of science talks, accessible to visitors wherever they are.
CEO Dr Chris Pigram said the online broadcast will enable Geoscience Australia's scientists to share their work for the national geoscience agency with people across the country, covering fields including petroleum, minerals, marine, mapping, groundwater and natural hazards.
"Geoscience Australia's work is helping to reduce Australia's carbon footprint, better prepare communities for natural disasters and discover new ways to uncover Australia's hidden mineral wealth," Dr Pigram said.
"The live stream will help us to reach more people across the nation and build community interest in this important work," he added.
The following science talks will be streamed live from Geoscience Australia:
