1. Updated Search and enquiry pages for stratigraphic units

New-look search and enquiry forms for stratigraphic units  have been launched on the Geoscience Australia website. The main stratigraphy information pages link remains the same, but URLs have  changed for the searches and the forms, so you may need to refresh the stratigraphy page in your browser and  update your bookmarks.

The new Stratigraphic Units Search URL is: https://asud.ga.gov.au/ and this will also  provide links to the State search and reference search, and the reservation, reference suggestion and general feedback forms.

2. Final results of the Southern Thomson Project

The Southern Thomson Project is a collaborative research and drilling project between Geoscience Australia, the Geological Survey of New South Wales and the Geological Survey of Queensland. The Project aim was to increase the understanding of the basement geology, evolution and mineral potential of this poorly understood region. Final results will be discussed at the Australian Geoscience Council Conference in Adelaide on 18 October 2018. The session includes details on the three-way collaboration between the agencies, the trials of successful drilling through the Great Artesian Basin, a synthesis of geochronological research, new updates on the mineral prospectivity of the southern Thomson Orogen in New South Wales and Queensland,  new student work in the region and an overview of the tectono-metamorphic  evolution of the southern Thomson Orogen.

Related papers are now available in the Australian Journal  of Earth Sciences, and a full listing of reports is available on the Geoscience  Australia website. The AGCC conference program is available at https://www.agcc.org.au/program.

Geoscience Australia is managing the geophysical data acquisition programs in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory on behalf of the state/territory geological surveys.

The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table.
