No feature type field exists for this annotation feature class. The feature type has only been included throughout the specifcation documentation for ease of reference.

Only Annotation associated with, or derived from, entities in feature classes grouped within the Industry feature dataset should exist within the IndustryAnno feature class.

Wherever possible annotation should be stored using the subclasses indicated under AnnotationClassID. Annotation stored as inline text should be kept to a minimum.

Type for large polygons and long linear features may be held in an annotation feature for each word to allow for spacing and differences in orientation, see Section 2 chapter 4.

Annotation should not contain any HTML tags within the blob element, nor should it contain any special characters.

Editing and placement of Annotation should be conducted in the appropriate MGA 1994 zone to ensure the spatial position of type on the map face can be correctly represented.

New features less than 22 500 sq m will be shown as a Mine Point. New features greater than 22 500 sq m will be shown as a Mine Area. For existing features between 1406 sq m and 22 500 sq m the information will be retained in the same geometry as captured in the base material/digital data (e.g. Mine Area or Mine Point).

1:250 000

Size and any other selection criteria apply to new feature occurrences. All feature occurrences existing in the TOPO250K NTDB will be retained unless there is clear evidence they no longer exist.

Where a Open Cut Mine Area is no longer associated with any mining activity and has since filled with water to the extent that it is now a permanent 'lake type feature', then it should be captured as a Lake. This is in spite of the feature type definition saying it must be naturally occuring as it is now a key hydrological entity not held behind a dam structure.

Where a mine, upon review of imagery, appears to have undergone rehabilitation, a producer should request clarification (via an action request) from Geoscience Australia on how to proceed.

A textnote may be included where its known function is expanded beyond that of the strict definition of a Mine Area, and where it would provide additional meaningful detail to the map. A descriptive note of "mine" is not to be used. Where applicable textnotes should be ordered so that status information such as 'abandoned' or 'disused' follows the known function descriptions e.g. 'tailing dumps disused'

These features may be located inland or offshore.

Abandoned wells will only be shown if of landmark significance.

Oil and Gas Platforms associated with offshore Petroleum Wells will be represented using the feature type 'Vertical Obstruction'.

Gas wells are to have an accompanying textnote eg 'gas well', 'oil well' unless the words 'gas well', 'oil well' etc are included in the name.

Abandoned wells will be TextNoted 'abandoned'.

Where a petroleum well and a vertical obstruction are coincident, the petroleum well will be given precedence (ie vertical obstruction given symbol of zero) but the feature will be labeled with the vertical obstruction name, height and description (e.g. 'Baraccuda Gas Platform (61m)').

Abandoned wells will have '(abandoned)' at the end of the descriptive note or name.

Size and any other selection criteria apply to new feature occurrences. All feature occurrences existing in the TOPO250K NTDB will be retained unless there is clear evidence they no longer exist.

This feature will be used to represent the location of an individual storage tank as well as groups of tanks. A group of tanks that cannot be shown individually may also be shown by a representative pattern.

General - All Scales

Storage tanks will be shown when the features are sufficiently prominent to have a landmark value.

Storage Tanks while generally cylindrical may vary in both shape and size.
