FOI Disclosure Log

From 1 May 2011, under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act), Geoscience Australia is required to publish information in documents provided in response to FOI requests. In accordance with section 11C(6) of the Act, Geoscience Australia will publish information in the disclosure log within 10 working days of giving the FOI applicant access to the information. The only exemptions will be information which falls into the categories listed under Section 8C of the Act.

The publication of such documents will be done through the portfolio Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources's Disclosure Log and will carry the FOI reference number "Geoscience Australia".

The information described in the disclosure log has been released by Geoscience Australia under the FOI Act and is available for public access.

There may be documents in the disclosure log that are currently not available in HTML format. If you are unable to read the format provided please contact FOI@industry.gov.au. We will try to meet all reasonable requests for an alternative format of the document in a timely manner and at the lowest reasonable cost to you.

Geoscience Australia technical advice related to the Carmichael Mine and Rail Project

On 22 February 2019 Geoscience Australia provided technical advice on Adani Mining Pty Ltd's groundwater management and research plans for the Carmichael mine and rail project. This advice was sought to inform the Department of the Environment and Energy's assessment of the management plans against the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conversation Act 1999. It is not the role of Geoscience Australia to make or suggest regulatory decisions to the Department of the Environment and Energy. This advice and related documents can be found at the Department of the Environment and Energy’s website.

On 5 April, Geoscience Australia was briefed by the Department of the Environment and Energy in a teleconference about changes made by Adani to its groundwater management plans following the technical advice provided on 22 February 2019.
