New Chief Executive for Geoscience Australia

Ms Melissa Harris PSM will take up the position of Chief Executive Officer for Geoscience Australia in February.

Geoscience Australia welcomes the news today, from acting Minister for Resources, The Hon Amanda Rishworth MP, announcing Ms Melissa Harris PSM as the new Chief Executive Officer of the organisation.

Experienced public servant and previously a senior executive with Land Use Victoria for more than six years, Ms Harris was appointed Chief Executive and Registrar of Titles in 2020. She received a Public Service Medal in 2023 for outstanding public service and transformation of geospatial, planning and land administration in Victoria

Retiring Chief Executive Officer, Dr James Johnson, said he was thrilled to welcome Ms Harris to the organisation.

"I congratulate Ms Harris on her appointment," Dr Johnson said.

"Geoscience Australia has been my home for almost 20 years. It is full of passionate and dedicated people bringing world-leading science to the forefront of the Australian public.

"I know Ms Harris will bring her wealth of experience to the organisation, and I am confident Geoscience Australia will reach new heights under her leadership."

Ms Harris is due to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer on 24 February 2025.
