Although their uses might seem obscure, Australian minerals quietly power many of the technologies that modern life increasingly depends on. They also underpin our national security and renewable energy transition.
The Australian Government’s Future Made in Australia supports the net zero transition while strengthening Australia’s economic and national security. It focuses on expanding sovereign capability and manufacturing and adding value to Australia’s resources. It also aims to attract and enable investment, while investing in the people and communities that will drive national success.
Securing supply and domestic capability
Secure supplies of Australian critical minerals and strategic materials will help expand domestic processing and support Australia’s ambitions to manufacture renewable energy technologies. Advancing our understanding of Australia’s critical minerals, strategic material and other resources necessary for the net zero transition is being led by Geoscience Australia through the Minerals Intelligence Project, part of the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative, a 35-year investment in precompetitive geoscience by the Australian Government.
Supply Chain Reviews
The Commodity Supply Chain Reviews provide evidence‑based overviews of selected mineral resource sectors. They provide a sector status snapshot, at a point in time, across the full supply chain of the selected mineral resource, including processing facilities and project stage as well as information on key market drivers and supply security considerations.
