Use of Artificial intelligence in Recruitment Processes at Geoscience Australia

How we use AI
Geoscience Australia may use Microsoft Copilot to support limited administrative and preparatory aspects of the recruitment process, such as drafting job advertisements and recruitment materials, in line with Australian Public Service (APS) requirements and organisational guidelines.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used to support efficiency and consistency only. It is not used to assess, screen, rank or select candidates. All recruitment decisions are made by a human selection panel and are based on merit.

We are committed to transparent and responsible use of AI. This includes clearly communicating when and how AI is used throughout the recruitment process, and formally documenting its use where required, including within recruitment records.

For more information, see:

What we expect from candidates
We recognise that candidates may use AI tools when preparing applications. To support a fair and merit-based process, candidates are expected to:

  • ensure applications reflect their own skills, experience and capabilities
  • use AI responsibly and in a way that aligns with APS Values
  • take responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of all submitted information
  • not use AI in a way that misrepresents capability or undermines merit

Candidates will be asked to disclose their use of AI when submitting an application and may also be asked to do so at various stages throughout the recruitment process.

For guidance on appropriate use of AI, see:

Tips for applicants:

  • If you are using "Safari", please try using a different browser if you are having difficulty.
  • Check eligibility criteria for each position in the first instance.
  • After reviewing the position and application requirements, you are encouraged to speak to the contact officer to learn more about the role.
  • Ensure you have a current resume and details of two referees. Ideally, one of the referees should be your current supervisor.
  • When a written application is required:
    • draft and edit your application in a separate document, check the word count and spelling, and then copy and paste (using the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl V") into the eRecruitment system; and
    • the Australian Public Service Commission provides advice on addressing selection criteria, see https://www.apsc.gov.au/cracking-code.
  • You can "save and close" your online application at any time, but it will not be considered unless "submit" is selected. You will be unable to submit your application if mandatory questions are missed.
  • You may "recall" an application and edit up until the closing date. Make sure you then "submit" it again.
  • You can see the status of your application when signed in.
  • If you "withdraw" an application you will not be able to reapply for the same position.
