Sentinel
Sentinel is a national bushfire monitoring system which provides timely information about fire hotspots to emergency service managers across Australia. The mapping system allows users to identify fire locations which pose a potential risk to communities and property.
Satellite Imagery - Canberra bushfires 2003
Geoscience Australia has acquired a number of satellite images clearly showing the effects of the fires which swept through the south western suburbs of Canberra on 18 January 2003.
Satellite Imagery - New South Wales bushfires 2001-2
More than 100 bushfires raged across New South Wales between 25 December 2001 and 8 January 2002 and around 20,000 regular and volunteer fire fighters and 85 aircraft were required to battle the outbreaks. Vast stretches of forests were destroyed, including more than 60% of the Royal National Park south of Sydney. More than 11,000 people were evacuated from their homes and 560,000 hectares was burnt.
Satellite imagery - New South Wales bushfires - Oct 2000
ACRES acquired Landsat 7 satellite images showing bushfires in northern New South Wales in early October 2000. In excess of 80 bushfires were brought under control by firefighters after more than 150,000 hectares of bushland was burnt. The image on the left was acquired on 2 June 2000. The second image shows the extent of the subsequent fires in a region extending from South West Rocks in the south to Grafton and the Clarence River in the North.
Australian Disaster Information Network
The Australian Disaster Information Network (AusDIN) portal is a multi-agency initiative to establish a national knowledge and information network of people and systems to serve the emergency management community in the Australian region. The AusDIN portal aims to facilitate access to data and other information about all phases of emergency management as well as access to acquired knowledge about emergency management.
