Earthquake tools, maps and databases

Earthquake mapping and database search

This tool enables the location of earthquake event information which is contained within the Geoscience Australia database. The map can be used to locate earthquakes according to their age and size. Background information featured on the map can be changed to suit individual requirements. Information about the database is contained within the mapping tool.

Earthquake Risk Modelling Software

Earthquake Risk Model (EQRM) is capable of earthquake scenario ground motion and scenario loss modeling as well as probabilistic seismic hazard (PSHA) and risk (PSRA) modeling.

Recent earthquakes

Locate and view a seismograph of recent earthquakes. This application shows earthquakes of magnitude greater than 6.0 in Australia and around the world.

Have you felt an earthquake?

If you have felt an earthquake, or know of an earthquake which occurred recently, please fill in this form as this information will assist Geoscience Australia’s research.

Earthquake Hazard Map of Australia - 1991

This map was prepared by members of the Standards Australia Working Group BD/6/4/1 based on the hazard analysis of Gaull, Michael-Leiba and Rynn (1990).

The committee comprised Russell Cuthbertson, Gary Gibson, Norm Griffiths, Gerhard Horoschun, David Love, Kevin McCue (Chair), Marion Michael-Leiba, and Jack Rynn. Other contributors included Ted Brennan, Peter Gregson and Gerhard Hofmann.

IRIS world current earthquake locator tool - USGS

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) seismic monitor provides an opportunity to monitor global earthquakes in near real-time, visit seismic stations around the world and search the web for earthquake or region-related information. The site also provides opportunities to view seismograms and make dataset requests via its WILBER interface.

AusDIN - Earthquake Pages

The Australian Disasters Information Network (AusDIN) portal is a multi-agency initiative to establish a national knowledge and information network of people and systems to serve the emergency management community in the Australian region. The AusDIN portal aims to facilitate access to data, and other information as well as knowledge for all phases of emergency management.
