Parliament House Rocks - Earth Science Week Tour for educators

Page last updated:23 September 2026

Celebrate Earth Science Week 2026 with a special geological tour of Australian Parliament House for educators, led by Dr Steve Hill, Chief Scientist at Geoscience Australia. Bookings are essential and positions are limited, so please register early. There will be a waitlist if there are cancellations. Discover how carefully selected stones from Australia and around the world were used to tell the story of our nation, while exploring the building’s architecture, cultural symbolism and Canberra’s remarkable landscape. This tour will provide educators with unique Earth science insights and real-world examples that connect geology, history, culture and place. Participants should meet in the Marble Foyer of Australian Parliament House after passing through the main front security. The tour will begin here before moving outside, where Dr Hill will share insights into the rocks, artwork and surrounding landscape features that help tell Canberra’s geological story. This tour is only open for educators. As the majority of the tour is outside, please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
