Application Description
ProvExplorer - Australian Geological Provinces Database
The ProvExplorer web application - http://www.ga.gov.au/provexplorer/frames.do - is a web-based map interface to the Australian Geological Provinces Database. The database contains descriptions and polygon outlines of geological provinces of the Australian continent and surrounding marine jurisdictional area. The provinces are mapped at a nominal 1:1 million scale.
Geoscience Australia's Geochron Delivery System
Geoscience Australia's Geochron Delivery system is the retrieval system for geochronological data stored by Geoscience Australia. The system will be continually updated as the volume, variety and quality of available geochronological data increase. The initial (September 2011) release contains only ion microprobe (SHRIMP) data, comprising data from about 560 samples, chiefly derived from Geoscience Australia's previous Geochronology OZCHRON. Migration of further OZCHRON data, and upload of more recent data (including analyses obtained in collaboration with the States and the Northern Territory under the National Geoscience Agreement) is ongoing and continuous.
Search the Petroleum Information Management System
PIMS is a search tool for discovery of survey and well data assets and physical samples held by the Geoscience Australia Repository. Data can be ordered and viewing of samples can be arranged via an online form. Although this is public data, fees are charged to cover the cost of transcription and delivery.
View Scanned 1:250 000 Geology Maps on the Geoscience Portal
View or download scanned images of all 1:250 000 scale geology maps of Australia. Images are available in 75 DPI, 125 DPI or 250 DPI resolution JPG files. The images are not spatially georeferenced. This application is deliverd on the Geoscience Portal (www.geoscience.gov.au), a collaborative web portal maintained by Geoscience Australia on behalf of all Australian State, Territory and Commonwealth geological survey agencies.
Petroleum Wells Application
This application provides access to GA's Oracle petroleum wells databases. Data themes include header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys. Data is included for offshore and onshore regions. Scientific data entry is generally only conducted for offshore wells. Onshore data is generally acquired from state geological surveys.

Australian Stratigraphic Units Database
The Australian Stratigraphic Units Database (ASUD) is the national authority on stratigraphic names in Australia. It originated as the National Register of Stratigraphic Names in 1949. The register was originally set up to help geoscientists adhere to the then newly created Australian Code of Stratigraphic Nomenclature (Lenz, et al, 1996). All information was held in a card file system until 1979 when the database was first developed electronically. The database now records information on all Australian stratigraphic units and their usage in published literature. The database contains over 15000 currently approved stratigraphic names and over 30000 variations, most of which are superseded, obsolete, or misspelt versions of the current names. The database is maintained by Geoscience Australia on behalf of the Australian Stratigraphy Commission, a standing committee of the Geological Society of Australia. Data can be queried and downloaded at the ASUD website at http://www.ga.gov.au/oracle/stratnames/index.jsp.
Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System Application
This system provides magnetic, radiometric, gravity and digital elevation data from Australian National, State and Territory Government geophysical data archives.
Interactive Maps
Interactive Maps is a discovery and exploration view of Geoscience Australia's geospatial services. The following scientific and decision support themes have curated content comprised of maps and functions. Each map has queries and functions with linked access to OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) web services and metadata. This system replaces MapConnect and AMSIS applications.
