1. New spectral data release and publication: Stavely Project HyLogger™ data and catalogue

A new tool for explorers and geoscientists is now available with the release of the Stavely HyLogger™ data package and accompanying catalogue. This release includes high resolution imagery and mineralogical information on all 14 pre-competitive stratigraphic drill holes, collected as part of the collaborative Geoscience Australia and Geological Survey of Victoria Stavely Project. The HyLogger™ hyperspectral drill-core logging system is designed to help geologists identify key mineralogies, with the use of Thermal and Shortwave Infra-Red wavelengths, to see more than the human eye. The dataset is available for free download from the National Virtual Core Library. The accompanying HyLogger™ Data catalogue is a GA Record summarising the project, methodology, and preliminary results as well as providing information on how to view and interrogate the dataset. The Geoscience Australia Record and data package are available as free downloads, or by contacting: erd_info@ecodev.vic.gov.au.

2. Release of new geochronology reports for the New England Orogen

Geoscience Australia Record 2015/28 by Waltenberg et al., reports new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon age results from 12 samples from the New England Orogen of New South Wales. This work was conducted under a National Collaborative Framework agreement between Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of New South Wales. The results provide an improved temporal framework for variably-mineralised Permian plutonic rocks of the New England Orogen.

Geochronology data presented and discussed in both these reports are also available for download via Geoscience Australia's Geochron Delivery system.

3. Half Day Minerals Forum in Perth showcasing Geoscience Australia's UNCOVER program.

A half day forum presented by the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) Western Australia and Geoscience Australia was held at the Irish Club in Subiaco, Western Australia on Wednesday 18th November 2015. The forum showcased the range of pre-competitive projects currently underway by Geoscience Australia and its collaborative partners under the UNCOVER initiative, focusing on the Cover, Architecture, Geodynamics and Footprints themes.

If you would like a copy of the talks, they are available here.

Please note there are some slide changes as this pdf was first presented in Canberra in September. Most slides have not changed.

4. Update on geophysical data releases

Geoscience Australia is managing the geophysical data acquisition programs in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory on behalf of the state/territory geological surveys.
