1. Bedrock Geology of Queensland and northwest New South Wales (1:2500000)

Geoscience Australia is currently undertaking national solid geological mapping as part of its UNCOVER program. The 1:2500000 scale "Bedrock Geology of Queensland and northwest New South Wales digital data release" is the first of these maps to be released.

This product is primarily based on the 1:2000000 surface geology map of Queensland Geology (2012), the Geological Survey of New South Wales' interpretation of the Thomson Orogen region and Geoscience Australia's geological provinces datasets dataset. Unconsolidated Cenozoic sediments were removed and the underlying bedrock geology interpreted using aeromagnetic data. Stratigraphic unit definition data are linked to the Australian Stratigraphic Units Database.

2. New seismic data release

Geoscience Australia manages and delivers seismic data acquisition and processing on behalf of Geoscience Australia and its State and Territory counterparts. In recent years several new surveys have been acquired with processed results now available for free download. Raw data are also available from Geoscience Australia at a nominal fee. The latest survey data available is listed below with more information available from clientservices@ga.gov.au or from the Onshore Seismic and Magnetotelluric project webpage.

L202 Yathong Seismic Survey

Geoscience Australia, in collaboration with Geological Survey of New South Wales (NSW), as a part of the NSW New Frontiers Initiative, conducted the Yathong Trough 2D Seismic Survey in 2013. 230km of deep crustal seismic reflection data were collected along two lines 13GA-YT1 (98 km) and 13GA-YT2 (132 km) in the Yathong Trough of the Darling Basin NSW. Raw data are available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au with processed data expected to be available in June 2016.

L203 Eucla-Gawler Seismic Survey

Deep crustal 2D seismic reflection data along the 830km Eucla-Gawler transect 13GA-EG1 were acquired from November 2013 to February 2014 as a part of collaborative project between Geoscience Australia, the Geological Survey of South Australia, the Geological Survey of Western Australia and AuScope. Together with the previously acquired Albany-Fraser lines, this makes one of the longest seismic traverses in Australia. Processed data from the western half of this line is now available for download from Geoscience Australia or from the Geological Survey of South Australia. Interpretation of the data for the eastern side was led by the Geological Survey of South Australia and are available for download.

L204 Southeastern Mt Isa Seismic Survey

A 670km deep crustal 2D seismic transect 14GA-CF1 runs along the gazetted road corridor from Longreach to Canobie, terminating further north near Four Ways, Queensland. The seismic and 400m spaced gravity data were collected along this transect during April-May 2014 as a part of collaborative project between Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of Queensland under the Queensland Government's Greenfields 2020 Program. Processed data and images are now available for download with raw data available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au. A preliminary interpretation has been completed by the Geological Survey of Queensland. For more information on the interpretation of this line please contact roger.cant@dnrm.qld.gov.au.

L205 Canning Coastal Seismic Survey

In May-June 2014 Geoscience Australia, in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Western Australia (WA), acquired 705km of deep crustal seismic and gravity data along two lines; 14GA-CC1 (562km) and 14GA-CC2 (143km) between Port Hedland and Derby, WA. Selected data and images are available for download now. Raw SEGD data and a full processed data set including Pre-Stack Time Migration (PSTM), Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM), Post-Stack Migration, Angle Stacks and CDP gathers in SEGY format are available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au. Data can also be accessed through the Geological Survey of Western Australia. Interpretation being led by the Geological Survey of Western Australia is underway.

The Geoscience Australia Record and digital data are available for free download from the Geoscience Australia website.

L206 South Gippsland Seismic Survey

2D seismic reflection data were acquired in the South Gippsland region of Victoria June-July 2015. The project was a collaboration between the Geological Survey of Victoria and Geoscience Australia. 203km of deep crustal 2D reflection data were collected for the South Gippsland seismic survey along four transects; 15GA-SG1, 15GA-SG2, 15GA-SG3 and 15GA-SG4. The data are currently being processed and due for release in the coming months. Raw data are available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au.

L207 Boulia Seismic Survey

707km of deep crustal 2D reflection data were collected for the Boulia Region seismic survey along two transects: 14GA-CF2 (368 km) and 14GA-CF3 (339km) during November 2014 to January 2015. An additional 146km of deep crustal 2D reflection data were collected for the Boulia Extension Seismic Survey along the single transect 15GA-CF3 with an overlap of 6km with the 14GA-CF3 transect in May 2015. The Project is a collaboration between Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of Queensland and funded under the Queensland Government's Future Resources (Mount Isa Geophysics) Program. Raw data are available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au.

4. Update on geophysical data releases

Geoscience Australia is managing the geophysical data acquisition programs in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory on behalf of the state/territory geological surveys.

The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table.

To obtain further details on the survey acquisition, please email Client Services; or phone 1800 800 173.
